As unrelenting trauma impacts the lives of African widows and orphans throughout Nigeria, our compassionate team at African Widow and Orphan Support continues to find ways to make a difference.
From navigating economic hardships to experiencing social isolation, African widows and orphans across the country are expected to endure significant challenges caused by both religious and tribal conflicts. Our volunteers work diligently to help these individuals find comfort in their faith during unimaginable times by providing emotional, financial and physical support.

Trauma Healing
After experiencing a trauma, it can be difficult to find your bearings, and sometimes, to hold onto your faith. At African Widow and Orphan Support, we strive to combat evil by providing a helpful hand and listening ear to others through our trauma counseling services. Care-Giver Training
Many who receive our care-giver training have said they initially thought their primary role as a parent or care-giver was to provide their children with basic needs, such as food, shelter and clothing. However, after our training sessions, they were able to gain a wider understanding of the importance of emotional needs as well as the physical and financial ones. Learn more about our care-giver training program here.
Economic Empowerment
We offer recently widowed women the opportunity to obtain the skills they need to provide for themselves and their families long-term. From vocational training and microfinance opportunities to entrepreneurship and subsidy grants to help them start or expand their business, it is our goal to help our beneficiaries gain financial independence and resilience in their current economy. Learn more about our economic empowerment program here.
Mini Banking and Money Management
During their time with us, beneficiaries learn how to manage their finances using effective budgeting techniques. Other topics we cover include: the importance of making good investments, how to establish and grow their savings and how to utilize different banking tools. Learn more about our mini banking and money management program here.
Academic Support
Having an education should never feel out of reach. Unfortunately, many widows cannot afford to send their children to the necessary schools. Because of this, our volunteer ministry offers academic support to the African orphans and fatherless children of Nigeria so that they can return to their formal education. Since beginning our academic support program, we have managed to help thousands of children with their schooling. Learn more about our academic support program here.
