As African widows and orphans throughout Nigeria lose their primary care-givers, the compassionate team at African Widow and Orphan Support strives to make a positive impact through our care-giver training program.

Whether they are a care-giver to a recently orphaned child or a parent in a single-family home, our care-giver training program gives parents and care-givers the tools they need to care for and support their children as much as possible. So far, our program has helped as many as 380 care-givers.

During our training sessions, volunteers offer an in-depth look into the responsibilities both care-givers and parents have when it comes to caring for their children. From there, each recipient will receive training on how to provide psychosocial support to aid in their child’s development.

Many who receive our care-giver training have said they initially thought their primary role as a parent or care-giver was to provide their children with basic needs, such as food, shelter and clothing. However, after our training sessions, they were able to gain a wider understanding of the importance of emotional needs as well as the physical and financial ones.

Our non-profit organization thrives on donations, which are directed toward the African widows and orphans we help. If you are able, please make a donation to our cause. Donations can be made by check to AWOS and mailed to: AWOS, c/o Dr. Marvin W Heyboer, 5839 Lyn Haven Dr SE, Kentwood, MI 49512. Any bit helps.
