With so many African orphans throughout Nigeria and other parts of Africa struggling, it’s a good time of year to think about giving back.
From making a monetary donation to getting your business involved with a great cause, there are many ways you can begin helping African orphans.
Here are 7 ways you can help orphans:
- Donate Funds: One of the most common ways you can help an orphan is by donating money to a trusted organization that is known for helping those in need. Donated funds are often allocated to helping orphans with items such as food, clothing, school supplies and other essentials. Whether you plan a one-time gift or are able to set up a monthly donation, remember that any bit helps and can make a significant impact on an orphan’s life.
- Volunteer Your Time: Another way to help African orphans can be by donating some of your time to an impactful organization. Many nonprofits are in need of volunteers to help with different tasks, such as running events, handing out information and even recruiting more volunteers.
- Spread Awareness: Not everyone can afford to donate to their favorite causes. If that’s the case, you can still help by spreading awareness about the cause and encouraging others to do the same. This can be done by sharing their posts on social media, creating your own posts or simply talking with your family and friends about them. The more attention brought to the organization, the more likely others will find their own ways to help.
- Sponsor a Child: Some nonprofits offer the opportunity to sponsor an orphan. In addition to making a monthly donation that will be put toward various necessities, you may have the chance to keep in contact with the child during your sponsorship via letter writing or post cards. Here, you will be able to hear about the child’s day, provide guidance or words of encouragement and celebrate their successes.
- Start a Partnership: If you’re looking for a way to get your business involved with a good cause, consider starting a partnership with a local nonprofit. There are several ways your business could participate in a partnership, whether it is through a financial contribution, resource donation or volunteer efforts.
- Donate Supplies: In addition to monetary contributions, you can make an impact by donating supplies to an organization that is known for helping orphans. Nonprofits with a website typically post a list of items that are always welcome for donation. You can either choose to donate directly or host a donation drive in your hometown to make an even larger impact.
- Adoption: If you are ready to expand your family, consider adopting one of the many orphans across the world that are in need of a good home. If you are unable to adopt, but have the time and resources, you may consider fostering instead. This will provide children with a safe and loving space to reside until they find their forever home.
Prior to donating or volunteering for a nonprofit organization, we strongly recommend you do your research to ensure the organization you are helping is reputable.
